Created in 1911, Champagne Salon is the creation of one man, a champagne connoisseur enchanted then seduced by the terroir of Le Mesnil. Eugène-Aimé Salon, a singular personality and bon vivant, succeeded in inventing the champagne of his desires: an unprecedented Blanc de Blancs.

1996 Champagne Salon Cuvée ‘S’

100 points
“It really doesn’t get much better than this, Salon is the world’s most sought after Champagne. Super precise, restrained and powerful, Salon’s purity and grace are what sets it apart from the pack, no one cuts this close to perfection! A demanding powerhouse of Champagne.”
Nick Stock, Wine Business Magazine

1996 Champagne Salon Cuvée ‘S’

“astonishing”
“Perhaps the least-known, rarest, and, one could argue, best of Champagnes, this astonishing wine was originally produced for one individual, Eugène Aimé Salon, a Champenois who, after World War I, decided to sell to the public. In 1920, Maxim’s in Paris became one of the first buyers of this blanc de blancs, which is only made in exceptional vintages (37 in the last century).”

“…quite simply, this is the greatest Salon I’ve tasted, and one of the handful of greatest Champagnes I’ve tasted. (…) already impressive, but beginning in 10-15 years, this will be one of the great Champagnes of all time.”
Claude Kolm, The Fine Wine Review, Number 113

1997 Champagne Salon Cuvée ‘S’

97/100
“Compared with the ’96, this is very approachable. It’s an essay in harmony, with fine fruit and lively acidity, finishing very dry, but smooth and beautifully balanced. Drink now to six years.”
Huon Hooke, The Sydney Morning Herald, Good Living, September 2008

“Still complex and symphonic, largely thanks to the 10-year maturation on lees, this offers everything from white truffles through to white musroms, little white flowers and chalky oyster shell minerals. A robust and early-drinking vintage that’s going to drink best from 2010.”
Nick Stock, The Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide 2010

“It would make a super-luxurious aperitif…”

1988 Champagne Salon Cuvée ‘S’

92+/100
“Extremely young and unevolved, with notes of lemon skins, tart green apples, honey and hazelnuts, this medium-bodied, beautifully intense, structured, 100% Chardonnay-based Champagne is brilliantly balanced. It is a tour de force in delicacy and complexity.”
Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, www.erobertparker.com
